This place is amazing! I love the decor and the overall ambiance of the restaurant. It is pretty spacious so it seems like seating is usually available. We went for a later lunch on a Sunday and although it was busy, we got seated right away. The parking lot is small and it is shared with multiple businesses so be prepared for that.
Family style is the way to go - we ordered xiao long bao (Shanghainese soup dumplings), the deluxe fried rice, beef curry dumplings and orange chicken. The xiao long bao was my favorite dish, very flavorful, perfect amount and I love how they have all of the condiments accessible on the table (vinegar, chili oil, soy sauce, sesame oil). The deluxe fried rice was delicious, I loved how it had all of the different meats and shrimp. The beef curry dumplings were tasty, I just wish they weren't deep fried and more of a steamed dumpling. Orange chicken was more on the citrus side which was refreshing. Portions and prices were great!
It looks like they have a fun happy hour menu with an array of drinks, so I definitely want to try that out next time! -

Maybe it's the asian in me, but I WAS super excited to try this place out. I came here with a couple of friends for my birthday. When we ordered the only thing I was happy about was that I found a parking spot close by the entrance.
First off the parking here really sucks. It's in one way and out the other and then you park around the other businesses if you can't find parking in their 30 parking spot lot.
Second the food. Not the best and the only reason why I say that is because... literally I make the same thing at home and plate it the same way. If I wanted to get whatever blah dumplings and not great of service, literally would have just ate at home. -

I wanted to give this place another chance. I seriously don't like writing bad reviews. I wanted to give then another chance.
Bad decision... the service was mediocre at best with missing items and indifference punctuating the service.
The food was just as bad. We had the veggie dumplings again and it tasted like chewing on cabbage mush... if thats possible. The chicken and shrimp dumplings were mush as well and tasted fishy... never a goid sign. The chowmein was takeout quality at best. In fact most take out places have better. There was no flavor to the dish except soysauce. And the spicy soup was the chilli oil mixed with water.
This was probably the worst chinese food I've had in a long time. Congrats! -

Pictures can be deceiving and that was certainly the case for the xiao long bao.
When I saw a silver pan of pretty-looking xiao long bao on Yelp, I instantly had to give this place a try. The restaurant is large and visually appealing which would make for a great spot to take your family and friends. You'll feel as if you have been transported to a little China town, although the fully stocked bar might seem a bit out of place.
We ordered pork xiao long bao, pork and shrimp wontons in spicy oil, and two sliders of orange chicken in a rice bun. The service is typical, although there was a moment where a server knocked over our soy sauce platter and didn't even bother to clean it up.
There is no doubt that the filling in all of the dumplings are great in both the xiao long bao and the wontons. The wrapper for both is thin and delicious, but that was perhaps the pitfall for the xiao long bao because there was little to no soup in the dumplings. However, what little drops we could taste were delicious. The orange glazed chicken bun made for a strange combination, but the chicken was prepared well.
Even though the flavors were spot on, the soup-less xiao long bao made far too heinous of a crime. It's just too bad because Dumpling Inn honestly had everything to be quite good. -

We decided to explore Convoy street to look for new places to try in SD. Tried this place because it popped up with the most reviews.
Walking in, place looks cool. Chinese paper lanterns hanging down from the ceiling, open concept feel, bar in the middle.
Thought the bar and drink menu looked interesting so we ordered cocktails.
Not sure if it's our luck but almost every time we order drinks from Asian eateries, they're never great. Had the Singapore sling and a drink with lychee in it. The lychee drink came out blue and tasted like sour cough syrup. The Singapore sling was better tasting but not something to be ordered again.
For food, we had the small cold plate, xiao long bao, Chinese pork sausage fried rice, braised duck, and side of stirfry vegetables. The duck was pretty good.. the flavors were nice though the duck was a tad dry. The fried rice was a little bland - just needed a dash more of seasoning. The cold plate seems to missing something - either sauce or more pickled veggies. Xiao long bao was tasty but wish it came out hotter. The veggies were cooked and seasoned perfectly.
Overall, good service and decent food.
